Its common sense that drugs are bad but most of everyone over looks is the abuse that is going on with these legal drugs and yes they are just as bad as street drugs. Prescription drugs are being abused causing addictions and a huge epidemic in America. In the pros and cons link the question they were debating was ” Should prescription drugs be advertised directly to consumers?” Crystal Adams, PhD, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Miami was supporting the cause that prescription drugs should be advertise because it spreads educational information and it better-educates patients that can help make well-informed decisions regarding their own health care. He claims and supports that the effects of DTCA on patients are grounded in evidence and that the effects include greater involvement in medical decision-making, increased compliance with prescription medication intake, and improved patient-physician communication. On the other hand Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, are disagreeing they support the idea that direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription medications causes considerable public harm through misinformation and the stimulation of demand for unnecessary, costly treatment, leading to inappropriate prescribing. The both have strong arguments and evidence to justify their claims I agree with the cons of advertising prescription drugs to consumers. I am aware that prescription are beneficial in some cases helping with infections and diseases but there is a easy entrance to getting a hold of such powerful drugs such as painkillers or stimulates that are being abused that we should be regulating more carefully.
